Nursery

At Saint Pierre Nursery the child is at the heart of all we do. We take account of their needs, interests and stages of development and use this to provide a nurturing and stimulating learning environment.

During the morning sessions children are organised into appropriate groups for their learning, not age related, but ability related. These activities are carefully planned to meet the varying stages of development for the children and encourage those children that are ready to have the opportunity to develop their phonic and maths skills.

The teaching in the Nursery provides a firm foundation for future learning. Our children are encouraged to be independent learners, and they are given the responsibility to make choices within an educational context. The development of social and communication skills is paramount, and they enable each child to give a voice to their own ideas and opinions.

We make full use of our own immediate environment, including our own garden and playground, Chalkwell Park (1 minute away), the beach (4 minutes away), the local woods, the High Street and the library. The curriculum is further enhanced by visits further afield.

The children receive a thorough grounding, upon which they can rapidly progress in Literacy, Mathematics, Scientific Understanding and all other areas of the curriculum. The learning at Saint Pierre School is fun, and it is guided by the children’s own ideas and interpretation as presented in the ‘Additional Curriculum’.

We recognise the diverse needs, interests and aspirations of each individual child, and so we do all that we can to ensure that these are catered for and developed. The children in the Nursery department are really valued members of the ‘harmonious community’ that is Saint Pierre School.
