We are very fortunate at Saint Pierre to have complete freedom over our Curriculum. This enables us to use The National Curriculum as a guideline but to add our own flare and creativity. As well as core lessons in English, Maths, Science, ICT, Humanities, RE and PSHE, pupils here benefit from teaching by specialist teachers in Spanish, French, Current Affairs, Art, PE, Drama and Music.
In Mathematics and English our curriculum, whilst being shaped by the National Curriculum, is directed towards the 11 Plus examinations. In year 5 this emphasis is tighter although lessons also accommodate those who don’t wish to take the examination at the start of year 6.
Our curriculum is designed using a thematic approach giving connectivity between subjects. Each year group will have a theme for the half term to which all subjects will be linked. This will enable a deep and wide-spread learning experience giving real-life links to the learning at hand and providing affiliation within the different areas of learning. These themes, which are continually under development, include Incredible Italians, Evacuating England and Local Leigh as a few examples.
