Music

At Saint Pierre we understand the life long benefits Music can create for our children. We aim to inspire and encourage children’s creativity and develop a passion for Music. Children from Nursery to Year 6 all benefit from weekly Music lessons. They develop various skills including performing, listening, evaluating, producing and exploring. Children explore a wide range of genres from Nursery Rhymes and the Blues to Rock and Pop. Younger children can explore various percussion instruments and learn about orchestras. Years 3-6 curriculum offers, whole class, descant recorder instrumental lessons, enhancing their knowledge of notation, theory and giving them the experience of playing within a group. Children are also encouraged to express themselves composing music. Our children produce explosive, festive and exceptional productions from Christmas productions such as, ‘Santa’s Setbacks or ‘Lights, Camel, Action’ to ‘The Lion King’ and ‘We Will Rock You!’ These productions allow children to not only demonstrate their love for Music; singing, dancing and playing instruments, but also create life-long memories to cherish.

At Saint Pierre we offer many more opportunities for children to demonstrate their enthusiasm for the subject including; Choir, who attends Young Voices concerts at the O2 Arena biannually, performs at local care homes, are invited annually to perform at Southend Hospital’s Christmas Light Switch On and, also participates in the Leigh Lights Christmas Parade. Children attend whole school weekly singing practice. We have instrumental teachers for Singing, Piano, Guitar, Drums and Saxophone. Children are offered the opportunity to prepare and sit exams and many perform at our whole school events such as the Carol Concert and Prize Giving. We celebrate World Music Day and BBC’s Music Day which aim to inspire and connect communities whilst celebrating Music.
